Rio de Janeiro

Rio is the city of dreams, mystique and escape known as "The Marvelous City." It is where nature's splendor meets human appetite. Rio is famous for Carnaval, samba, Bossa Nova, beautiful beaches and beautiful people. The most famous postcards from Rio are Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain and the Sugarloaf Mountain. It is home to the largest samba parades and one of the world's largest football stadiums. While always a popular destination, Rio gained its fame as a party-going beach haven in the 1930's when Copacabana Palace Hotel was the definition of luxury for Europeans and Americans. A destination that can overwhelm the senses, Rio is for everyone!

Amazon

Nowhere else in the world will you see more shades of green. Brazil is home to 60% of the Amazon's 1.7 billion acres of rainforest. This region is unrivaled for its biodiversity and not only has the highest diversity of plant species on the planet, but also is home to an unprecedented amount of insects, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. There are many adventures to experience in the Amazon: wildlife tracking, bird watching, swimming with piranhas, visiting Native tribes, purchasing handicrafts, and boating down the Amazon River are only a few options for you to enjoy.

Iguazu Falls

The Iguazu Falls (also spelled Iguassu or Igua‡u) are a mystic, spectacular force of nature and the experience of visiting the falls is energizing and awe-inspiring. They are a system of many falls over a 1.67mile stretch of cliffs. The most sought out attraction is The Devil's Throat. If you want a close-up experience of the falls, there is a walkway at the base of the The Devil's Throat. You can enjoy walking along the base of the waterfall, or take a helicopter ride over the falls to see the entire majestic landscape. You can also get close to wildlife and nature by visiting the many nature preserves in the area.

Manaus

Manaus is located in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest and is a priority destination for eco-adventures. Set at the "Meeting of the Waters," the black water Rio Negro (Black River) doesn't just join the Amazon River, but dances with the brown currents in enchanting spirals. The first Europeans in the area built a fort at Manaus in 1669 and ever since it has been a destination for trading. Manaus grew from a fort to villa, to small town, to thriving city once the rubber boom from 1890-1920. After synthetic rubber became popular, industry declined until a new surge of tourism, mineral and agricultural industries developed starting in the 1950's.

Possible activities for Option 1

Nature Hike

Biodiversity is the main characteristics of ECOPARK. It includes uncataloged species in virgin rainforest, natural savannahs and creeks. Several streams of crystal clear warm water run through the rainforest. During tour the guide will lead clients, educating them about the local flora/fauna, how and where to find edible fruits and potable water, first aid , how to find their way in the forest and much more. Duration: 1 to 3 hours (depending on health conditions of participants).

Monkey Forest

The facilities for rehabilitation and re-introduction of wild animals in their habitat (known as the Monkey forest), was created in 1991 with the intention of receiving animals which have been confiscated from illegal commerce. This is a joint project with the Municipal Secretary of Environment and sustainability. In this center, the animals are initially put into quarantine to be evaluated and taken care of by a team of veterinaries and biologists. In partnership with the FFV (Live Forest Foundation), a non profit institution overseen by Amazon Ecopark Lodge, a unique feeding system has been developed. Twice a day, (10:30 & 15:30), the animals receive supplements of their natural diet, ensuring that they are being fed the necessary nutrients. The Monkey Forest is open to guests at feeding times, always accompanied by a credentialed professional, allowing guests to film and photograph these animals in a natural and safe environment. It is also possible to "adopt" one of these animals and follow its development. Duration: 40 minutes to 1 hour.

Visit to the Native´s House

Depart the lodge on boat or motorized canoe, accompanied by a Bilingual guide to learn about the traditions and customs of local Amazonians ("natives"). Duration: it may vary according to the place visited / "low water level seasons" is closest to the Lodge and does not involve any kind of boat. At "high water level season" distant communities can be visited (1 to 3 hours.).

Fishing Tour

Depart lodge in paddle or motorized canoes, accompanied by a Bilingual guide. Fishing of "piranhas". Note 1: It is a non-professional fishing. Note 2: This tour can be combined with the "Meeting of the Waters" Tour and/ or with a "Visit to the Native's House".

Night Tour in Canoe

Depart lodge in paddle or motorized canoes, to appreciate the sounds of the jungle at night, with the possibility to spot small alligators (or other nightly creatures). Alligators are spotted because their eyes shine like small red lights. Once the alligator is spotted by the guide's spotlight, he will try to catch a small alligator with his own hands and bring it on to the canoe, and a brief explanation of their habitat follows. The alligator will then be safely released back to the river. (No harm is done to any of the animals). Duration: about 1 hour. Note: during "high water level" season (from April to August) and on full moon evenings, it might be difficult to find alligators.

Tour to the 'Meeting of the Waters'

Can be a full day tour (description below) or just passing by the phenomenon and it will depend on flight schedule. Departs ECOPARK at 08h30am on board of a regional double deck boat. The boat goes down the Negro River navigating along the shore of the City of Manaus, allowing passengers to view the Amazonas Theater, the Port of Manaus, the customs and the interesting aspects of the local life - the stilt houses for instance. It is a spectacular merge of Negro and Solimões Rivers. From this point on both rivers form the famous Amazon River that runs all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The waters of the two rivers run together for about 12kms, side by side, without mixing. The phenomenon happens due to differences in temperature, density and speed of the waters of the rivers. Continue the trip on the Amazon River to the Island of "Terra Nova" where lunch will be served in a typical restaurant (rustic yet clean restaurant with buffet style, international and regional dishes). Depending on the level of the waters , a visit to a typical " caboclo " (local inhabitants) villa will be included (at Terra Nova Island) during this full day tour (may not be available during the months of May, June, July and sometimes also August , when the villa is floaded) .
