This exclusive itinerary allows you to visit Rio de Janeiro in great style followed by a complete Amazon immersion. You will start in iconic Rio, having the chance to discover traditional aspects of the Marvelous City guided by a local expert host. Then we take you for a complete Amazon experience: though the Amazon covers nine countries (Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Suriname, Guiana and French Guiana), 60% of the forest is located within Brazilian territory. The volume of water of its rivers (20% of all fresh water in world) is probably the most impressive Nature experience one can witness. By staying at an in-forest lodge plus complementing your trip with a boat expedition, you will be sure not to miss the best of the Amazon!

IMPORTANT NOTE: this program should start on a Wednesday due to the boat expedition which has a fixed departure day, otherwise itinerary changes would be necessary. For large groups, chartered cruises are available on request.

Rio de Janeiro

Rio is the city of dreams, mystique and escape known as "The Marvelous City." It is where nature's splendor meets human appetite. Rio is famous for Carnaval, samba, Bossa Nova, beautiful beaches and beautiful people. The most famous postcards from Rio are Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain and the Sugarloaf Mountain. It is home to the largest samba parades and one of the world's largest football stadiums. While always a popular destination, Rio gained its fame as a party-going beach haven in the 1930's when Copacabana Palace Hotel was the definition of luxury for Europeans and Americans. A destination that can overwhelm the senses, Rio is for everyone!

Amazon

Nowhere else in the world will you see more shades of green. Brazil is home to 60% of the Amazon's 1.7 billion acres of rainforest. This region is unrivaled for its biodiversity and not only has the highest diversity of plant species on the planet, but also is home to an unprecedented amount of insects, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. There are many adventures to experience in the Amazon: wildlife tracking, bird watching, swimming with piranhas, visiting Native tribes, purchasing handicrafts, and boating down the Amazon River are only a few options for you to enjoy.

Amazon Clipper Cruise

There are several ways to see the wonders of the Amazon. The cruise is a unique way to see and enjoy nature, especially at dawn and dusk. That's the experience that Amazon Clipper provides. For 20 years Amazon Clipper Cruises has been a leader in operating boat cruises in the Amazon River system departing from Manaus. Amazon Clipper Cruises has unique knowledge in logistics and locations rarely shown to any other visitors.

Manaus

Manaus is located in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest and is a priority destination for eco-adventures. Set at the "Meeting of the Waters," the black water Rio Negro (Black River) doesn't just join the Amazon River, but dances with the brown currents in enchanting spirals. The first Europeans in the area built a fort at Manaus in 1669 and ever since it has been a destination for trading. Manaus grew from a fort to villa, to small town, to thriving city once the rubber boom from 1890-1920. After synthetic rubber became popular, industry declined until a new surge of tourism, mineral and agricultural industries developed starting in the 1950's.

In the belvedere there is a food court, an anphiteatrum and a helipad. The second cable-car ride takes you to the top of Sugar Loaf mountain, at 395 meters of altitude, from where one can see, in a unique perspective, the beach of Copacabana, the Santa Cruz Fortress, some beaches of Niterói in a fantastic scenery. Lunch time (not included), followed by a visit to the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain by Tijuca Forest(admittance tickets included). See the most famous of all images of Rio, the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Drive back to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 3 >Amazon

Below is a brief description of the possible activities which are included depending on the package option you choose (1, 2 or 3 - see the   "Hotels and prices" tab for details on each lodge).

Possible activities for Option 1
Nature Hike
Biodiversity is the main characteristics of ECOPARK. It includes uncataloged species in virgin rainforest, natural savannahs and creeks. Several streams of crystal clear warm water run through the rainforest. During tour the guide will lead clients, educating them about the local flora/fauna, how and where to find edible fruits and potable water, first aid , how to find their way in the forest and much more. Duration: 1 to 3 hours (depending on health conditions of participants).

Monkey Forest
The facilities for rehabilitation and re-introduction of wild animals in their habitat (known as the Monkey forest), was created in 1991 with the intention of receiving animals which have been confiscated from illegal commerce. This is a joint project with the Municipal Secretary of Environment and sustainability. In this center, the animals are initially put into quarantine to be evaluated and taken care of by a team of veterinaries and biologists. In partnership with the FFV (Live Forest Foundation), a non profit institution overseen by Amazon Ecopark Lodge, a unique feeding system has been developed. Twice a day, (10:30 & 15:30), the animals receive supplements of their natural diet, ensuring that they are being fed the necessary nutrients. The Monkey Forest is open to guests at feeding times, always accompanied by a credentialed professional, allowing guests to film and photograph these animals in a natural and safe environment. It is also possible to "adopt" one of these animals and follow its development. Duration: 40 minutes to 1 hour.

Visit to the Native´s House
Depart the lodge on boat or motorized canoe, accompanied by a Bilingual guide to learn about the traditions and customs of local Amazonians ("natives"). Duration: it may vary according to the place visited / "low water level seasons" is closest to the Lodge and does not involve any kind of boat. At "high water level season" distant communities can be visited (1 to 3 hours.).

Fishing Tour
Depart lodge in paddle or motorized canoes, accompanied by a Bilingual guide. Fishing of "piranhas". Note 1: It is a non-professional fishing. Note 2: This tour can be combined with the "Meeting of the Waters" Tour and/ or with a "Visit to the Native's House".

Night Tour in Canoe
Depart lodge in paddle or motorized canoes, to appreciate the sounds of the jungle at night, with the possibility to spot small alligators (or other nightly creatures). Alligators are spotted because their eyes shine like small red lights. Once the alligator is spotted by the guide's spotlight, he will try to catch a small alligator with his own hands and bring it on to the canoe, and a brief explanation of their habitat follows. The alligator will then be safely released back to the river. (No harm is done to any of the animals). Duration: about 1 hour. Note: during "high water level" season (from April to August) and on full moon evenings, it might be difficult to find alligators.

Tour to the 'Meeting of the Waters'
Can be a full day tour (description below) or just passing by the phenomenon and it will depend on flight schedule. Departs ECOPARK at 08h30am on board of a regional double deck boat. The boat goes down the Negro River navigating along the shore of the City of Manaus, allowing passengers to view the Amazonas Theater, the Port of Manaus, the customs and the interesting aspects of the local life - the stilt houses for instance. It is a spectacular merge of Negro and Solimões Rivers. From this point on both rivers form the famous Amazon River that runs all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The waters of the two rivers run together for about 12kms, side by side, without mixing. The phenomenon happens due to differences in temperature, density and speed of the waters of the rivers. Continue the trip on the Amazon River to the Island of "Terra Nova" where lunch will be served in a typical restaurant (rustic yet clean restaurant with buffet style, international and regional dishes). Depending on the level of the waters , a visit to a typical " caboclo " (local inhabitants) villa will be included (at Terra Nova Island) during this full day tour (may not be available during the months of May, June, July and sometimes also August , when the villa is floaded) . This visit will happen prior or after lunch.

Possible activities for Options 2 and 3

Visit a floating deck where wild river dolphins come every day. Then, stop by a special Amazon location where local workers create original natural products from the forest.

Jungle Hike
Trekking through the unstirred forest, toured by local hosts who will reveal some of the mysteries of the Amazon rainforest. Learn about trees, herbs and fruits, jungle survival orientation and natural medicine notions.

The many channels (paranás), lakes, and islands of the world's greatest freshwater archipelago are explored in regional boats.
